It's really been a shame that the city that boasts "The World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade and the Biggest Leprechaun" didn't even have an Irish Pub! Hot Springs shall not be disgraced any longer! There are several key elements that make an Irish Pub different than a bar.
First, Irish pubs traditionally carry the name of the proprietor. McCardle's honors John's paternal grandmother who immigrated to America in the early 1900's. Linehan's father was a key factor in the development of the pub, as he found it hard to believe John had been in the restaurant business all of his adult life without ownership of an Irish pub on his resume. Hot Springs residents and visitors are most familiar with John as the owner of Hot Springs Brau Haus for the last fourteen years.
Second, is the atmosphere. There is nothing to equal the ambience of an Irish pub, nothing to match its casual and attractive sociability. The Irish have always known that. The historic nature of the space atop Spencer's Corner lends an air of the old world to McCardle's. Soft lighting and small seating areas allow people to relax and be themselves, taking pleasure in good company and conversation.
McCardle's staff is very important too. Hospitality exudes naturally from the Irish; a good-natured mixture of gossip, wit, conversation, debate, and information, proffered freely along with friendly and efficient service.
Drinks that provide the true flavor of Ireland are essential, such as Guinness, Harp, Jameson, Bushmills and Bailey's Irish cream.
Distinctive Irish recipes and food are another important part of Irish pub life and complete the mix that charms the world.
